Thelma is a delightful, sensitive young dog who appears to be a Whippet mix. She is an extremely sweet girl who craves human attention and seems to be particularly drawn to small children. As is true of the whippet breed, Thelma is a very high energy dog who needs and loves to run at top speed, and she is lightning fast! Inside the house, she'll want to curl up with you on the sofa to watch TV, and sleep on your bed with you, if you will allow that! She is wonderful with other dogs and hopes to be adopted to a home in which she will have a canine buddy who also wants a friend and playmate. Until recently, she was being fostered with a youngster who quickly became her beloved buddy, but he has now been adopted, leaving Thelma alone - and devastated.

Thelma appeared as a stray. She is estimated to be 1 year, 10 months old as of July 30, 2012 and weighs 36 pounds. She is in excellent condition and has the extremely narrow, slender build of a whippet. One of Thelma's unusual and intriguing characteristics is that she virtually never barks or makes sounds of any kind! Thelma is negative for heartworm and lyme disease and has been spayed and vaccinated.

Thelma is a happy, gentle, lovable dog. She does need basic training, as it appears that she has had none. She is being fostered in a horse barn, which most certainly is not the right environment for her. Now that her foster buddy has been adopted, Thelma has started going to her Foster Mom's office for a few hours each day most days of the week. She behaves perfectly riding in the car and is also calm and relaxed in her dog crate when necessary in the office. This is giving some opportunity to work on housebreaking too.

Please note: a large, securely fenced yard with minimum 4' high fencing is mandatory for adopting Thelma (no invisible fence, please) due to her need and desire to run. In addition to her former foster buddy, Thelma has been introduced to a number of other dogs and gets along perfectly with all of them. Since she enjoys canine companionship so much, a home with another dog is strongly preferred. Excellent references are required, as is an adoption donation to cover her vet costs. Please contact Trinka at catnut@yahoo.com or 610-737-0888 for further information about Thelma. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE CAT SHACK.
