4/23/11- two new BEAUTIFUL pics of Tessa now that she had her surgery to remove the portion of damaged foot. She is doing GREAT and is running and playing more now then she did prior to the amputation of her toes. It's clear Tessa is feeling better now and is ready to be adopted.
4/3/11 Update on little Tessa. The Cat Shack vets were just not happy with how Tessa's foot that was injured in the leghold trap has healed. It seems that too much damage was done to her toes when she was injured and left in the freezing cold January weather. Even though the inflammation and infection were cleared quickly after her intake, the blood circulation to her injured toes just wasn't enough to keep her little toes healthy. To make her more comfortable, the lower half of her left hind paw was amputated on Friday, April 1st. She is also now spayed.
This Brave little kitten is doing so well inspite of her foot injury and her difficult early days in the freezing and hostile environment where she was born. She has become sweet and friendly while remaining shy and undemanding. We hope to see this special little girl in a real home soon, where wonderful owners can help make up for all Tessa's prior bad experiences!
Original post:
Poor little dilute tortie Tessa was found on a farm propery, frozen to a horse's water tub. When her rescuers brought her inside they realized she had an injury to her rear paw in addition to her debilitated condition.
Tessa visited the Cat Shack vet (Perkiomen animal hospital) on 1/31/11 and her wounded leg was examined. It appears this poor baby was a victim of a leg-hold trap. Her rear paw has a vertical wound across the top of her foot. X-rays showed that the foot was not fractured. This wound has now been cleaned and antibiotics are helping her to heal.
Tessa is now tested Negative for feLV, vaccinated and dewormed. She is very tiny at about 2.5 lbs, the size of a 2-3 month old kitten but she is getting her adult teeth, which means she is closer to 5-6 months old. This little girl had a rough start but things are looking up for her. She will be ready for adoption in a few weeks.
Special Needs: Paw Amputated due to leg-hold trap injury
The Cat Shack rescue is all volunteer and the adopted cats are delivered to your home. Because we deliver the cats to you, we must restrict the adoptions of our highly adoptable cats to a 1 hour drive from the Allentown PA area. In certain situations, 'special-needs' cats, ferals and older cats will be adopted to homes at a greater distance then a 1 hour drive from Allentown PA. The first step in adoption is to...
