Shags continues to do wonderfully on his diet. At the last Adoption Day at Petsmart in Whitehall, he weighed 17.3 lbs!  He now weighs less than he did when he was first adopted out.  His vetwork continues to come back clean, and it is aparent that we caught his weight gain in time.  Even with the weight loss though, Shags's bone structure shows that he will always be a larger lovable cat.

Around the house, Shags is showing many traits of Ragdoll cats - from the large size, to the sedentary yet loving personality.  He likes to be near people - preferrably leaning up against them as they sit on the couch getting petted while they watch TV.

We do see him play sometimes, but only in short bursts.  Either we haven't found the right toy, or he's just past that stage.

Shags had a recent vet check and he has lost almost 5lbs on his low-fat diet!  He is now just over 25 lbs and bloodwork indicates he's a healthy boy.  Shags has been doing very well with his diet and seems to be moving around a lot more and enjoying life.  He is a big cuddly boy that can't wait to find a home. He is a lover not a fighter. He does fine with dogs and other cats but he could do witthout the dogs.

4/1/2014- Shags is now back with the Cat Shack and he was vet checked on in-take.  The good enws is Shags is just as sweet and loving as he was when he was originally adopted back in 2006.  The not so great news is that he has gained a LOT of weight!  Shags now tops the scales at 30lb!  Aside from the excessive weight, our vets tell us that Shags is a healthy, happy boy.  He gets along great with other cats, kids, dogs- everyone.  Now that Shags is receiving a better diet we expect to see him slim down and feel evern better.

Sadly, we were just informed that Shags is losing his home and is returning to the rescue.  This now 10 year old cat will need a loving home.  More info and update pictures soon!

Original post:  01/02/2006 Shags is in his new home and he is very happy. We are so glad to finally find a family who loves this big guy.

08/30/2005 Shags was recently turned into The Cat Shack. His owner could not keep him anymore and was going to let Shags roam outside and fend for himself. We couldn't see that happen to this big boy.

Shags is about 2 years old. He is a big boy who weighs in at about 18 lbs. He is very friendly and just wants someone who will spend time with him and love him.

Shags is already neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and negative for FeLV and FIV. He has been an only cat since he was 8 weeks old so we are still seeing how he does with other cats. Right now he is very confused and can't understand why his owner abandoned him. Shags seems to be taking to his foster home and doesn't seem to be bothered by the other cats. He tends to keep to himself.

Special Needs: Shags requires regular feeding times with limited amounts of food. If given the option to graze, he will eat it all.

Adopting from The Cat Shack

The Cat Shack rescue is all volunteer and the adopted cats are delivered to your home. Because we deliver the cats to you, we must restrict the adoptions of our highly adoptable cats to a 1 hour drive from the Allentown PA area. In certain situations, 'special-needs' cats, ferals and older cats will be adopted to homes at a greater distance then a 1 hour drive from Allentown PA.
