Update picture and Bio 3/7/2014- Cleo has developed into an Absolutely Stunning young cat!!  She has a long lush coat and resembles a mix between Maine Coon, Angora and maybe a Turkish Van.  We don't know her true breeding, but she is a beauty.  She gets along well with other cats in her home and loves people.  This beauty will fit into any home.  They only sign that she came from such a difficult past is that one of her eyes has a partially blocked tear duct so it will occasionally run a bit.  The Cat Shack vets do not see any on-going problems for Cleo.  She is now spayed, vaccinated, FeLV/FIV tested Neg and ready for a new home!

Foster Note Update:

Update: 1/7/2014

Cleo has been with us and is doing well. She is a HIGHLY active and curious little girl who loves to play, run, climb and explore. Whether by herself with a toy, or, as she's become accustomed, with one of the other young cats in our house, she is a high-energy kitten many hours of the day. She also enjoys being around us and will seek us out to be near when it's time for her to relax.

She's recovered from most of her illness, but still has a tendency to have watery eyes that requires regular cleaning.

Cleo would likely do best in a forever home with another young and playful kitten or young cat who is willing to play, engage and otherwise keep up with her throughout all hours of the day.

On 10/9/2013 the Cat Shack received a plea for help for "the sweetest kitten ever" that was living with a 2-year-old child who was reportedly handling the kitten roughly. The child was picking up the kitten by the neck and throwing her. The child's parents had decided to place a "free-kitten ad" as a way to handle the problem. Because sometimes bad things happen to animals placed via "Free" ads there was an urgent need to get this kitten into a safe place where she could be safe and also receive proper vet care.

Thanks to a network of volunteers, Cleo was brought to safety and taken to one of the Cat Shack's vet affiliates (Perkiomen Animal Hospital in Palm PA) for evalutation.

Our vet determined that Cleo is very thin, dehydrated and has an untreated kitten cold. She is overall in very poor condition and was not receiving proper care. The good news is that she does not have obvious wounds or fractures from being handled roughly and she tested neg for FeLV/FIV so we expect a full recover with some TLC.

Cleo will be available for adoption after she fully recovers from her difficult start. Meanwhile we have started a fundraiser to help with her higher-then-normal vet costs to help get this kitten the best possible start. Thank you to all who helped get Cleo to safety and continue to help support the Cat Shack's efforts!

Adopting from The Cat Shack

The Cat Shack rescue is all volunteer and the adopted cats are delivered to your home. Because we deliver the cats to you, we must restrict the adoptions of our highly adoptable cats to a 1 hour drive from the Allentown PA area. In certain situations, 'special-needs' cats, ferals and older cats will be adopted to homes at a greater distance then a 1 hour drive from Allentown PA.

The first step in adoption is to...

Young KITTENS are always adopted in Pairs or to homes with other felines already in the home. Click here to read why kittens are happier with a buddy!

All cats are vaccinated, dewormed, tested and altered as part of the adoption contract. This basic care (and other vet work required to make our rescues healthy) is included in the $85 adoption donation!
