Updated Aug 8th, 2008.

Peggy Sue was living outside on the grounds of Kutztown University with her 2 kittens, Buddy and Holly. Poor Peggy was badly injured, possibly by a leg-hold trap. THe family was living in a wooded area behind a chainlink fence. Students and university staff saw the cat dragging her injured leg behind her for weeks. Some people just turned away and tried not to look, while others just didn't know what to do to help the poor cat. Eventually a kind student couldn't stand to see the poor cat suffering anymore so she tried to scale the fence to help Peggy sue. The student was seen by campus security and fined for trying to help Peggy and her family! However, she didn't want to see the cat slowly waste away with no help so she tried a different way to find help. After contacting the univeristy with no result, the student called local rescues and thankfully the Cat Shack was able to find the foster space and resources to get this cat her much needed care.

Peggy Sue was rescued using a humane trap and quickly was taken to our vet on an emergency visit. Poor Peggy's leg was too far gone for repair and needed to be amputated. Her kittens Buddy and Holly were rescued a few days later and were reunited with their mother. So far, only shy little Holly has been adopted and is doing great in her new home. Buddy is the most forward of the 3 and is growing into a handsome cat. Peggy Sue is shy but has warmed up to her foster family and will even sit on the sofa with them. She is getting along just fine with 3 legs!

This cat has been through so much- now she is healed and just needs a great home to complete a happy ending to this story!

All cats are vaccinated, dewormed, tested and altered as part of the adoption contract. This basic care (and other vet work required to make our rescues healthy) is included in the $75 adoption donation!

All adopters also get an adoption gift bag with free samples of cat products and a 4lb bag of Science Diet cat food.

Peggy Sue's on-going vet care and amputation was a significant expense for The Cat Shack, inc. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Adopting from The Cat Shack

The Cat Shack rescue is all volunteer and the adopted cats are delivered to your home. Because we deliver the cats to you, we must restrict the adoptions of our highly adoptable cats to a 1 hour drive from the Allentown PA area. In certain situations, 'special-needs' cats, ferals and older cats will be adopted to homes at a greater distance then a 1 hour drive from Allentown PA.
